For Spring Awakening, I took on the role of Props Artisan and specialized in designing all of the paper props in the show. This included consumable letters and pamphlets used in the choreography, along with a journal and an essay for the character Melchior. This production was a great way for me to ease into the world of prop making before advancing to the role of props manager in the following year.

Designing the paper props in this show taught me to have an eye for detail. I also learned to utilize my research skills in order to further my design work. For example, I spent several hours researching 19th century German letters and political pamphlets. I also deeply explored the life and journals of Leonardo Da Vinci, and ended up drawing inspiration from them for Melchior's journal.

For this production, I was also afforded the opportunity to both give a design presentation to the cast and create audience-facing posters describing my design work and process. These posters were displayed outside of the theatre and served as an audience engagement tool. This unique opportunity inspired in me a desire to pursue audience engagement, and helped lead me toward my most recent endeavors as a dramaturg.
